Kunshan Meiyaxing Hardware Machinery Co., Ltd. is a direct branch of Hong Kong Meiya International Trading Co., Ltd. in China. It owns its own cutting tool brand: MANF, and engages in the sales and operation of CNC cutting tools. It provides tungsten carbide end mills, milling inserts, turning inserts, grooving and parting inserts, drilling and boring inserts, multi-functional inserts, threading inserts, and other indexable inserts and their matching tool holders and tool holders. Furthermore, it has established long-term strategic partnerships with several well-known manufacturers, jointly developing R&D, design, and production teams, utilizing advanced equipment, and continuously innovating and improving. Leveraging its technological strength, the company is committed to collaborative efforts, focusing on technical services to form a mutually supportive industrial chain, solving various processing problems for manufacturing enterprises.
In the field of precision machining, small-hole precision boring has always been a technically challenging process. When the hardness of the workpiece exceeds HRC50, ordinary inserts often fall short. Small-hole precision boring inserts specifically designed for high-hardness materials are the key tools for solving this problem.
Applicable Situations
Situation 1: Direct Turning of Hardened Steel
When the workpiece's hardness after quenching is ≥ HRC50 and the hole diameter is ≤ 20mm, traditional processes... Traditionally, the machining process involves "rough boring before quenching → quenching → grinding." Using high-hardness inserts allows for direct precision boring, achieving "turning instead of grinding," increasing efficiency by over 50%. Typical parts include: mold guide post holes and hydraulic valve core holes.
Situation Two: Finishing of Difficult-to-Machine Materials
For viscous, high-hardness materials such as stainless steel (e.g., 17-4PH aged state) and high-temperature alloys (Inconel 718), ordinary inserts easily produce built-up edge. The special coating of high-hardness inserts reduces the coefficient of friction, allowing for stable machining in the cutting speed range of 40-80 m/min.
Situation Three: Intermittent Cutting of Small Holes In situations involving intermittent cutting, such as through intersecting oil holes or keyways, the cutting edge of ordinary inserts is highly susceptible to chipping. High-hardness inserts, with their tougher matrix and thick coating, can withstand microscopic impacts. It is recommended to control the feed per cutting edge at 0.02-0.05 mm/r.
Situation Four: Dry Cutting or Low-Lubrication Environments
When dry cutting is required due to environmental protection or part cleanliness requirements, the high-temperature resistance of high-hardness inserts becomes apparent. Note: The linear speed should be reduced by 15%-20% compared to wet cutting, and sufficient depth of cut (greater than 2/3 of the tool tip radius) should be ensured.
Usage Precautions
· Machine tool rigidity requirements: Spindle power ≥ 5kW, guideway clearance < 0.02mm; otherwise, vibration will significantly shorten tool life.
• Tool holder selection: Hydraulic or heat-shrink tool holders are preferred, with runout accuracy controlled within 0.005mm.
• Cutting parameter reference: Linear speed 60-120m/min (lower limit for hard materials), feed per revolution 0.01-0.05mm, allowance 0.05-0.15mm per side.
• Tool tip damage assessment: When the machining sound changes from a steady "shh" to a sharp "squeak," the tool tip should be checked immediately to avoid damage to the tool body. The core value of high-hardness inserts for small-hole precision boring lies in transforming the grinding process into turning. It offers significant technical and economic advantages when the workpiece hardness exceeds HRC50, the hole diameter is less than 20mm, and the batch size is over 100 pieces. For precision machining in the mold industry, hydraulic components, and aerospace fasteners, this technology has become a key means of enhancing competitiveness. Mastering its application timing and using appropriate cutting parameters can optimize both efficiency and cost while ensuring quality.
