As the name suggests, straight-flute taps have straight chip grooves parallel to the tapping axis. They are the oldest and most basic type of tap.

In these cases, straight-flute taps, with their simple structure, excellent rigidity, and low cost, are the ideal choice. The powerful chip evacuation of spiral taps is ineffective in these materials.
3. The "Bottom Clearing" Function in Blind Hole Machining
In blind hole tapping, spiral taps are widely used for their ability to evacuate chips upward. However, straight-flute taps play another key role in blind hole tapping-as the "finishing tap" or "bottom clearing tap" in a three-piece tapping system.

5. Machining Large-Diameter Threads in Tough Materials
When machining large-diameter threads in tough materials like aluminum alloy and mild steel, the chips produced are long and tough, making them prone to clogging. While spiral taps are generally recommended, in some deep-hole applications, using straight-fluted taps, along with peptide-grinded tapping oil and frequent back-swirls, can effectively control the chips and avoid the risk of them becoming stuck in the hole.
